The Journey by Zhang Jingna
I saw Snow White and the Huntsman today, it was pretty cool, I thought Charlize Theron was really good. The Miyazaki references surprised me. Did anyone else think aside from the Princess Mononoke part the last bit about the heart pointed towards Howl’s Moving Castle? Maybe it’s because I rewatched it just recently, but it really made me think of Howl.
Then dA asked me what my favourite fairytales were, so I went on wikipedia and found a list to refresh myself on what I’ve read. As I went through it, I realized that hey, I’ve read a crapload of this.
So in my head I recounted dozens of scenes from stories I can remember but aren’t included, it was a pretty interesting rediscovery of old memories, to realize just how much I read back then, how much fantasy I’d let into my imaginations, and how much they seep into my work.
It’s sad but true, that we lose a child’s imagination as we grow older. And so often I yearn for those simpler days, where I could wrap myself up in dreams without a worry for the harshness of the world.
